Abstract
The study investigates the provenance of medieval stone sculpture at Notre-Dame of Paris and the cathedral of Noyon with the objective of identifying dispersed sculptures thought to have originated on these monuments. This was accomplished by fingerprinting the stone--using neutron activation analysis--for the monuments, some of the quarries in the region, and from sculptures in a number of collections. In many instances attributions of the dispersed sculptures were confirmed to these buildings, while others were qualified or rejected.
