Abstract

The article specifies a widely spread assumption that language is a tool of culture. It claims that interconnection between language and culture can be reasonably viewed as that of creative power and the effect of its energizing pressure. The material form of language or else its medium, substance, expressive layer or mediator, plays quite an essential part in formatting culture. It is a major task of humanities, especially of philosophy and linguistics as well as of cultural studies and theory of cross-cultural communication to uncover the true meaning of interconnection between language and culture which turns out to be well described with the help of the famous aphoristic statement: in the beginning was the Word. The latter or language can be claimed to be the creative, formative beginning in its interconnection with culture.
