Abstract
The use of continuously cast, round-cornered, square steel billets for the production of seamless tubing at the Welland, Ont., mill of Page-Hersey Tubes Ltd. is discussed. A description of the roller-die-bed production method and the history of the use of continuously cast steel billets at this plant are included. The properties of the resultant tubing and the effects of billet defects are listed and evaluated. The quality of tubing from continuously cast billets is compared to that of tubing from rolled ingots.
