Abstract

A series of Tm-doped GdAlO3 crystals with different concentration of Tm were synthesized by the Floating Zone method, and then scintillation properties particularly in the near-infrared range were studied. It was confirmed that all the materials showed several emission peaks due to the 4f-4f transitions of Tm3+ peaking around 800, 1450, and 1610 nm. Both photoluminescence and scintillation decay curves can be approximated by a single exponential decay function. These scintillators are applicable for dosimetric applications confirmed by the fact that the scintillation output linearly depends on the irradiation dose across the range of 10 mGy–10 Gy.
