Abstract
BaSiO3:Eu single crystals with different Eu concentration of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 % were grown by the floating zone method. In the photoluminescence and scintillation spectra, a broad emission band appears around 560 nm due to 5d–4f transitions of Eu2+, and the decay time constants are around 300 ns which is a typical time constant of Eu2+. From the pulse height spectrum, relative light yield under 137Cs γ-ray irradiation of the 1.0 % Eu-doped sample is ~8100 ph/MeV, and the optimum Eu concentration in this material are around 1.0 %.
