Abstract

SCIENCE POLICYLONDON-- David King, one of the world's leading physical chemists, was appointed last October to replace Sir Robert May as the U.K.'s chief scientific adviser. He describes the challenges of his new job, from addressing the issue of low salaries for British scientists to coping with a series of crises culminating in the ongoing outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
