Abstract

In neutral and acidic aqueous solutions containing 2 mol L −1 of Cl −, the decay of the solvated electron and the formation of ClOH − and Cl 2 - were studied by picosecond pulse radiolysis experiment. The rate constant for the reaction of e s − and H 3O + is 1.3 × 10 10 L mol −1 s −1. The yield of the OH radical at 100 ps is estimated to be 5.0 × 10 −7 mol J −1.
