Abstract
Differential and total cross section are computed for the scattering of a plane longitudinal wave from spherical or cylindrical isotropic elastic inclusion embedded in another isotropic elastic medium. The inclusion and/or the medium may be absorptive. The dependence of the scattering cross section on ka (k is the longitudinal wave number in the host material and a is the radius of inclusion) over the range 0–50 is computed for various media. The effect of the elastic constants of both host and inclusion material on the frequency dependence of the cross section will be examined.
