Scattering of acoustic waves by finite elastic cylinders immersed in water

Abstract

Backscattering measurements on finite elastic cylinders first reported by Numrich and Varadan [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. Suppl. 1 67, S3 (1980)] have been extended. Comparisons with T‐matrix computations are shown at 0°, 45°, and 90° with respect to the major axis of the cylinder and for values of (12)kl ranging from 3–10. For these measurements l is the length of the major axis of the cylinder. Experimental results at higher values of (12)kl are compared with resonance theory.
