Scanning tunneling microscopy studies of the synthetic polypeptide poly(.gamma.-benzyl L-glutamate)

Abstract

This paper discusses how STM studies of PBLG in the form of a thin liquid crystalline film cast from dilute DMF onto HOPG reveal a helical molecular structure and a highly organized nature due to strong bipolymer hydrogen-binding interactions. Direct correlation of these images with 3-D x-ray diffraction images is performed and future implications for this data discussed. 13 refs., 6 figs.
