Abstract

Abstract The criterion for the existence of homogeneous asymptotes (both dependent and independent of body size) of displacements and stresses close to a straight wedge disclination is discussed. The disclination is along the axis of an arbitrary rotationally inhomogeneous anisotropic elastic medium. To establish the form of the body-size-independent asymptote of the disclination displacements, dimensional considerations are modified by taking into account the invariance of the elastic problem under the group of rigid-body displacements. It is shown that, in the general case, body-size-independent asymptotes of displacements and rotations are not homogeneous.
