Abstract
Numerical simulations are conducted for the gravity–driven settling of two particles in a viscous quiescent fluid. A method is proposed to determine the scaling law of inter–particle contact time. The method is simple and general. The resulting scaling law explains the observations of literature and predicts the influences of particle–fluid density ratio, fluid viscosity, friction, rolling friction, and adhesion force.
