Abstract
The scale invariance for the self-interacting scalar field is investigated in a systematic way. The renormalization group equation and the Callan-Symanzik equation are obtained, in a prescription-independent form, as different translations in terms of renormalized quantities of a unique equation which expresses the scale invariance of the (regularized) « bare » theory. The argument is general and can be extended to other theories.
