Abstract

Abstract This paper aims to study Saudi foreign policy since the beginning of Saudi contact with the outside world during the 18th century, to determine the degree of continuity and change therein and to see if there was a pattern or patterns that distinguished it, despite the changes in the internal and external contexts, the different personalities involved, the growth of capabilities, as well as the difference in challenges. To accomplish this, the goals and determinants of Saudi foreign policy are presented as well as the most significant writings on the subject in order to assess the conclusions reached. Emphasis is placed on reading the features of Saudi foreign policy during the period following the unification of the Kingdom, since it is the longest time span and the most diverse and mature period.
