Abstract

This paper determines, using real time measurements with real video content on satellite television (TV) channels, which are the satellite broadcasting plans that offer the best viewer Perceptual Video Quality (PVQ). In the case of satellite television providers there is a tradeoff between the number of the television channels delivered by a transponder, and the video quality on each of these channels. The author introduces the concept of Quasi Perfect Perceptual Video Quality (QPPVQ) in order to establish a quality reference for the television channels. The tests were performed using a general application designed for this purpose by the author that measures in real time the PVQ simultaneously for all the television channels broadcasted by a transponder in order to determine the influences on the video quality of the transponder broadcasting plan.
