Abstract

The photometric profiles of the shadows cast on Jupiter by its large satellites are determined to some extent by the physical properties of the Jovian upper atmosphere. Profiles of Io's shadow are constructed on the assumption of exponentially decreasing mean free path and different path lengths. Variations from the incident intensity distribution occur, which may be useful in the atmospheric analysis.
