Abstract

In Korea, the number of incident end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients doing renal replacement therapy has increased by 300% from 20 years ago to 16,068 in 2016, the number of patients undergoing RRT is 93,884 in 2016, an increase of about 400% compared to 20 years ago. Early recognition and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is essential to slow progression to end-stage renal failure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness of CKD in Korea from 1998 to 2016 and to evaluate the prevalence of CKD during the period compared to the past.
