Abstract

The Sarus Crane (Grus antigone) is a species of large bird found in parts of South and Southeast Asia, including India, Nepal, Pakistan, and possibly Bangladesh and Myanmar. The species has a patchy distribution and is of conservation concern. There is a lack of comprehensive reviews of the biology of the Sarus Crane, and published information on the species is mostly limited to status surveys and studies on breeding biology. In recent years, the Sarus Crane has been facing threats such as habitat loss, hunting, and disturbance. There are ongoing efforts to conserve the species and research its biology. Some of the potential future directions for Sarus Crane conservation and research include habitat protection, research on population dynamics and trends, and efforts to reduce threats such as hunting and disturbance.
