Abstract

Based on finite difference time domain method, the specific absorption rate in the visible human head model exposed to the field radiated by cathode ray tube of computer monitor has been simulated numerically. Computer monitor made by Cathode ray tube (CRT) used for information display is usually in closer proximity, therefore, it is important to consider the possible health hazards due to this type of exposure. As the most considered adverse effects of the electromagnetic (EM) fields are of thermal nature, which is directly associated with the specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution, in this paper, we have calculated the three dimensional SAR distribution by 3D-FDTD method. As the first step, we have calculated the incident electromagnetic field from electron beam in acceleration region analytically. Then a 3D-FDTD space of 178× 235×211 was set up as the human head and the digital human head parameters were put into it. Finally, the scattered EM field can be calculated and SAR distribution figure can be gotten. From the results, it can be confirmed that the adverse effects associated with computer CRT is not as serious as cellular phone and the maximal SAR is only 1.6W/kg.
