Abstract

Cordero’s story tells of protagonist Santiago’s life in the Philippines under the auspices of Christianity—left over from Spanish colonists—and the folkloric being known as the aswang. As the story unravels, this intersection of spiritual belief and secular politics, the insidious side of humanity comes to light.
