Abstract

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Częstochowa at Jasna Góra as a place of sanctification of a Christian in the teachings of Bishop Stefan Bareła Sanctity is the meaning of a Christian’s life and belongs to its essence. The article is devoted to the role played by the Jasna Góra Sanctuary in achieving the sanctity of an individual and the entire Polish nation. Selected texts from the teachings of the third bishop of Częstochowa, Stefan Bareła, related to the worship of the Mother of God, were analysed. It manifests itself in various forms and on many levels of human existence, contributing to the development of the spiritual life of man. The Bishop teaches what is the worship of the Mother of God, thus contributing to the understanding of what Marian means in the life of a Christian, separating its theological aspects from pure piety. A proper understanding of the veneration and expression of the worship of the Mother of God strengthens the Christian’s faith. Its manifestation is the constant making of pilgrimages to Jasna Góra and the vows and commitments made in this place. An important element of the worship of the Mother of God is its influence on every Christian’s vocation to sanctity, discussed in the teachings of Bishop Stefan Bareła.
