Abstract
Previous research reported descriptive statistics on the typical sample size in psychological research as reported in four American Psychological Association journals. The data from the journals were presented as a single sample, thus precluding analysis of sample size in research from various areas of psychology. The current article presents data journal by journal in order to examine sample sizes in four areas of psychological research: abnormal, applied, developmental, and experimental psychology. The results of the journal by journal analyses revealed obvious differences in sample sizes according to the area studied. The experimental area used the smallest samples, the applied area used the largest, and the developmental and abnormal psychology areas used equal sizes that fell between the other two
