Abstract

While there is no doubt that the large coercivity of 2:17-based permanent magnets is due to pinning of domain walls at the cell boundaries of the pyramidal cell structure, the process leading to the formation of the strong pinning barrier is controversial. It is shown that the experimental facts and micromagnetic analysis support the model according to which the cell walls transform into the high-anisotropy 1:5 structure during the cooling process from 800 to 400 °C.
