Abstract
Summary: Building on three texts of Espriu – Primera història d’Esther [The Story of Esther] (1947–48), “Sota la fredor parada d’aquests ulls” [Under the still coolness of these eyes] (1972–76), and El doctor Rip [Doctor Rip] (1931/1972–73] – facts and arguments are put forward concerning the writer’s contribution to the Catalan language. Special attention is drawn to the fact that, even though Espriu remained true to the Fabrian codification, he distanced himself from the version the Noucentisme movement had produced. [Keywords: Salvador Espriu, Catalan language, Fabra codification]
