Abstract

The effect of sodium chloride, calcium chloride and zinc chloride at concentrations from 5 to 30 wt.% on the liquid—liquid equilibria (LLE) of the solutropic ternary system benzene (S)-2-propanol (C)-water (A) and the vapor—liquid equilibria (VLE) of its constituent azeotropic binary systems, namely, benzene-2-propanol; 2-propanol-water and benzene—water, has been experimentally investigated. The measurement of LLE was done at 30°C while the VLE were determined at 101.3±0.4 kPa using a Smith and Bonner type of equilibrium still. The experimental tie-line data of the LLE have been correlated using the Eisen—Joffe equation. The binary VLE data have been correlated using the Wilson and the NRTL models after ascertaining the thermodynamic consistency of these data.
