Abstract

The Russian electric power industry remains the most powerful in the territory of the former USSR. It presently accounts for 63% of power facilities of the former unified power system of the USSR and 68% of all electricity produced. The hydropower industry, including more than 80 large hydroelectric stations (HESs), accounts for more than 17% of total production of electricity, and the total installed capacity of the generators at HESs of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy (Mintopenergo) of Russia as of January 1993 is 43,500 million kW.
