Abstract

This paper is concerned with the preventing freezing of water in a closed vertical tube by using an adiabatic material and a tube heating. The 3-D numerical procedure in un-steady state reveals that thick material enhances unexpectedly freezing compared with thin material during the freezing process. An adiabatic material covered on a tube obstructs to prevent freezing compared with a bare tube comparatively in low air flow-inlet velocity. This curious results can not be explained from a mean heat transfer coefficient in steady state. The results obtained will be useful basic information to prevent freezing of water in a tube safely and economically within the present parameters.
