Abstract
Colonoscopy is considered the optimal screening modality for colorectal cancer, but it offers incomplete protection. Interval cancers arise due to a number of factors, including polyps that are missed at colonoscopy due to their location on the proximal aspect of colonic haustral folds, flexures or valves. Recent studies indicate that use of retrograde viewing devices or retroflexing during withdrawal in the right colon can increase polyp detection rates. A new colonoscope with a short turn radius may potentially allow withdrawal from the cecum to rectum in complete retroflexion and may therefore increase polyp detection rates.
