Abstract

Facility layout planning is one of the most important processes in designing manufacturing systems. Production scheduling is also important in designing and operating manufacturing systems. Currently, these are performed separately. One major approach for facility layout planning is to minimize the distance, in which temporal manufacturing efficiency is not considered. The temporal efficiency is taken into consideration in production scheduling is performed after finishing the layout planning. However, this does not always generate the optimal facility layout from the viewpoint of the temporal efficiency, since the facility layout determined in the layout planning phase was not generated considering the temporal efficiency. In the previous study, the integrated method for planning layout and schedule was proposed, but that did not consider realistic traveling route. In this paper, the integrated method for planning layout considering traveling route and production schedule is proposed.
