Abstract

A combined cycle power plant which consists of gas turbines and steam turbines, is more efficient than a conventional power plant because it uses a higher proportion of the energy that the fuel produces when it burns. However the varnish problem of the gas turbine oil becomes a serious problem in a combined cycle power plant recently. Therefore, on-site degradation diagnosis method which can detect oxidation degradation of lubricating oil at the early stage is desired for the proactive maintenance. In this study, we prepared sample oils which were oxidized by oxidation in the laboratory. Color parameters of membrane patches produced from sample oils were measured by using a colorimetric patch analyzer. And, the properties of the sample oil were analyzed by using other deterioration diagnosis methods. We examined the changes in the properties of the sample oil by the progress of the oxidative degradation. As a result, we found intermediate oxidation products were soluble in the oil and became difficult to trap with membrane filter in high oil temperature. For such reason, it is considered that the color of the membrane patch became light. When the sample oil to which the oxidation doesn't progress so much is filtered, the oxidation product mainly captured in the filter. On the other hand, when the sample oil to which the oxidation progress so much is filtered, the oxidation product captured in the filter and on the filter. The oxidation product caught on the surface of the filter also works as a filter.
