Abstract

Abstract Ruthenium(II) complexes of C6 H5 P[CH2 · CH2 · P(C6 H5)]2 triphos, (C6 H5)2 · P · CH2 · CH2 · P(C6 H5) · CH2 · CH2 · P(C6H5 · CH5 · CH2 · P(C6H5)2 tetraphos-1 and P[CH2 · CH2 · P(C6H5)]3 tetraphos-2 are reported. The treatment of RuCl2 (PPh3)3 with triphos, tetraphos-2(tet-2) and tetraphos-l(tet-l), in benzene solution resulted in the formation of the complexes RuCl2 (triphos), RuCl2 (PPh3)tet-2 and (RuCl(tet-1)] Cl respectively. Ruthenium(III) chloride hydrate in dimethylformamide reacts with triphos, tet-1 and tet-2 to yield the complexes RuCl2 (CO)triphos, [RuCl2 (CO)2] 2 L (L=tet-1 or tet-2), respectively. The reaction of RuCl2 (DMSO)4 with these ligands in benzene and methanol solution respectively gave the complexes RuCl2 (DMSO)2 (triphos), [RuCl(DMSO)L]Cl (L=tet-1 or tet-2). The complexes thus obtained undergo reaction with carbon monoxide and hydrogen to yield the corresponding carbonyl and hydrido complexes. The complexes failed to react with molecular oxygen.
