Abstract

Rustchuk Ali Fethi Efendi was a scholar, poet, sufi who lived in the first half of the 19th century, when the Ottoman Empire was going through a great transformation and change. He also made translations in different fields and prepared a library catalog. In his work titled Milâd-ı Muhammediyye-i Hâkâniyye Hilye-i Fethiyye-i Sultâniyye (Hilye-i Sultânî), which he wrote in the form of poetry and prose, he translated and commented on the Hazrat Ali’s narrations of hilya in accordance with the classical commentary tradition. In the introduction section of the study, general information about hilye type is given. In the first part, the life and works of Ali Fethi Efendi are introduced and in the second part, the shape and content of Hilye-i Sultânî are examined. In the third part, the verse and hadith quotations in the work and the Arabic poems arre prepared in tabular form together with their sources and meanings. In the conclusion section, an evaluation of Ali Fethi Efendi, Hilye-i Sultânî and the methods of quoting in this work is made.
