Abstract

The history of nineteenth-century Russian ethnography contains many pages devoted to the study of peoples of foreign countries, including those of the American continent. Particularly important are the works of Russian scholars pertaining to the peoples of northwestern America (Alaska), which, as we know, belonged to Russia until 1867. In this connection one can name the writings of I. A. Veniaminov, F. P. Wrangel, L. A. Zagoskin, A. F. Kashevarov, and many others.
