Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the primary background issues for the growth of the conflict potential of the US-Russia relations in the Arctic region. The author focuses on the great importance of the region for Russia, paying special attention to the huge reserves of natural resources, as well as the historical context of the Arctic development. He describes the significance of the Northern Sea Route and its role as an energy corridor. In conclusion, the article highlights several environmental problems, primarily climate change and ice melting. Their solution creates common interests for Russia, the United States of America and other Arctic countries.
