Abstract

The oldest text of the Crónica de Iria preserved today (C) was written by Rui Vázquez in the fifteenth century and its status as original has been contested by several academics. This work will shed light on the matter by considering diachronic linguistic differences between this text and mainly another copy (V), of the seventeenth century. The use of more archaic forms in V suggests that the original text of V must have been different from and earlier than C and, therefore, that the latter is not the original.
