Abstract

As you are preparing to attend the Royal College of Midwives conference in Cardiff, I am sure that you will be looking forward to a week of debate, professional stimulation, the renewing of old acquaintances and some socialising. My feelings and expectations this year are very different to those normally experienced because on Tuesday 18 May I will be inaugurated as the next president of the Royal College of Midwives. My overwhelming feeling is that I have been given a great honour, together with an opportunity to build on the outstanding success of Dame Lorna Muirhead in representing and taking forward the work of the College throughout the UK and internationally.
