Abstract

LOW-CARBOHYDRATE DIETS ARE receiving a lot of attention in the popular literature. These types of diets have been recommended for both general and athletic populations, and they promise a multitude of benefits, from weight loss to increases in physical performance. Presently, there is much debate about the long-term safety and efficacy of these types of diets. Athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and sport scientists often discuss the effects of dietary modifications on athletic performance. In these discussions, there are many differing opinions about the effects of low-carbohydrate diets on sports performance gains. The purpose of this roundtable is to discuss several issues related to low-carbohydrate diets and anaerobic athletes.
