Abstract

Objective To explore the status of rotavirus and adenovirus infections in children with diarrhea in Urumqi.Methods Fecal samples were collected from both inpatients and outpatients with diarrhea from January to December of 2011 in Urumqi,and rotavirus and adenovirus antigens were detected by ACON Rota-Adeno.Results Of the 315 cases,92(29.21%) were found positive for viral infection.The viral antigens were detected in 80(25.40%) and 9(2.86%) for rotavius and adenovirus respectively and 3for both.Most of the children with rotavirus infections were from 6 to 12 months.Rotavirus infections occurred mainly in autumn,while adenovirus infections were less than 2-year-old children and it was detected all the year and no seasonal flunctuation.No significant differences were noticed in infection rate of rotavirus and adenovirus in age and ethnicity.Conclusions Rotavirus is one of the most important causes of infant diarrheas in Urmuqi,China,and AdV infection can not be ignored in the infantile diarrhea.
