Abstract

This communication reports on the synthesis and characterization of monodispersed iron oxide nanoparticles having uniform particle size at 25 °C. Applying a simple organic methodology, first a surface-modifying agent has been prepared. The as-synthesized surface-modifying agent was then used for in-situ synthesis of monodispersed magnetic nanoparticles at room temperature. The synthesized nanoparticles are characterized by XRD, TEM, FTIR and 1H NMR techniques. XRD shows that the synthesized particles are highly crystalline and TEM images show that synthesized surface-modified iron oxide nanoparticles are spherical with size around 25 nm. The surface-modified iron oxides are highly dispersible in non-polar organic solvents like hexane, toluene etc.
