Roles of Counselors in Counselling Students With Special Education Needs in Cross River State

Abstract

This paper has discussed the roles of counselors in counselling students with special education needs in cross river state. Special needs children are Bonafede citizens of this country who because of their exceptionality and or their impairment require special attention and services in the pursuit of their education to be able to cope with life and also contribute their own quota to the development of the nation. this paper therefore, examined the concept special need education, meaning of special needs children, identified the different categories of special needs children that can be found within the school systems and also the meaning of counsellor and the roles counsellors play in special needs education was also discussed. Conclusion and recommendations were made. Among the major recommendations include, counselors in special needs education should obtain bachelor’s degree in special needs education, work as special needs teacher before becoming special need education counsellor.
