Role-based knowledge mapping: An operational decision support media for research purposes

Abstract

Without knowing what is happening in an enterprise a manager is hardly able to make an informed rational decision. Fortunately, the current state of an organization has been concealed inside the enterprise operational data. If this data is purposefully processed according to the required decision variables, it can be mapped into a knowledge map. A knowledge map may demonstrate what is happening, how it can be managed and why it has happened according to the employed method of its creation. Not all these knowledge maps are helpful for facilitating every manager's decision process: every role or to be more honest every task needs a specific map. The main advantage of the proposed approach is in creation of role-based knowledge map. In this paper, we have focused on What aspect of knowledge by proposing collaboration and expertness maps for associate dean of research and education, respectively to better manage their ongoing issues. The idea is realized using the actual operational data of Research and Technology Information System of the school of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Tehran as a case.
