Abstract

The paper deals with investigation of the possibility of partial substitution of Ti for V in the WMoV high-speed steels with addition of Si. It has been found that Ti induces decrease of the primary austenite grain size and decides the increase of the primary carbide's portion in the investigated steels. Ti occurs in the MC type primary carbides only and is not present in the matrix and M 6C type carbides. Partial substitution of Ti for V, when Ti concentration does not exceed 0.3%, induces the increase of hardness of the investigated steels by about 0.3–1.5 HRC respectively for 9-2-2 and 11-0-2 steel types. Precipitation of the M 4C 3 type dispersive carbides is the main cause of the secondary hardness effect.
