Abstract

1.1. Changes in renal excretion of sodium, potassium and water after cooling to 27°C were monitored in three groups of rats.2.2. Immunization with acetylated rat renin (Group B) reduced plasma renin activity by 51% compared to animals immunized with unmodified renin (Group A) and to saline injected control animals (Group C).3.3. In the two control groups (A and C) a hypothermic diuresis and natriuresis was seen but this was abolished in the renin-suppressed rats.4.4. Potassium excretion was substantially reduced on cooling all three groups of animals and was not affected by reduction of plasma renin activity.5.5. An equivalent reduction in mean arterial blood pressure was found in all three groups.
