Abstract
This study reports the impact of silver (Ag)/titania (TiO2) nanoparticles (TNPs) on optical and photocatalytic features of samarium ions (Sm3+) doped sulfophosphate glass system. Sulfophosphate glasses with the molar composition of (58.5-x) P2O5-20.0MgO-20.0ZnSO4-1.0Sm2O3-0.5Ag-xTiO2 with x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 mol% were synthesized. Density and molar volume have been measured and calculated. TEM image revealed the contribution of both Ag NPs and TiO2 NPs in the glass samples. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peaks of Ag positioned at 560 and 585 nm as well as SPR peaks around 407 and 847 nm for TNPs. There were three prominent peaks in emission spectra which centered at around 562, 598 and 643 nm. PMZSA0.1Ti glass sample revealed the highest value of PL intensity, which was assigned to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Ag/TiO2 nanoparticles and noticeable enhancement in the field effects around the RE ions. The radiative properties of the proposed samples were studied via the Judd-Ofelt (J-O) analysis. The results of the surface hydrophilicity and the photocatalytic activity of the samples in the existence of Ag/TiO2 NPs confirm the self-cleanness characteristics of the presented glasses.
