Abstract

Implementation of lean construction largely relies on organizational learning and knowledge creation, which is in turn promoted by lean techniques. However, there are few studies in knowledge management of lean construction. This paper tries to fill the gap and establishes a linkage between techniques in lean construction and knowledge management through the SECI (socialization, externalization, combination, internalization) mode. Therefore, a set of lean techniques is proposed and suggested to support knowledge creation process. Then the authors specifically demonstrate how these techniques fit into the process. A questionnaire survey was conducted to testify the assumptions afterwards. The results show that lean tools have a positive effect on knowledge creation and finally promote lean performance. This research can help to understand how lean techniques play a role in creating knowledge, which will definitely boost the knowledge management of lean construction.
