Abstract
The morbidity of gastric cancer has increased greatly and it has a tendency to be younger. China is one of the areas with high incidence, and there is still a certain gap between efficacy and prognosis compared with the international level. The occurrence and development of gastric cancer goes through basic phases of pre-cancerous lesions, early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer. Autophagy level varies in the above-mentioned phases, and the biological effects are also different. Chemotherapy is an indispensable part of the treatment of gastric cancer. Autophagy acts as a bridge between cancer cells and chemotherapy drugs, affecting the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic drugs and even producing multidrug resistance. This manuscript discussed the role and mechanism of autophagy in the development and progression of gastric cancer as well as how to prevent gastric cancer by controlling autophagy and reverse drug resistance. Key words: Gastric cancer; Autophagy; Chemotherapy; Multidrug resistance
