Abstract

The endogenous driving forces of urban logistics development are as follows: the increasing diversification of e-commerce logistics service demand, optimization of the warehouse network, and resource allocation strategy. In this study, we investigate the microhub location and vehicle-routing challenge with respect to the deliveries and pick-ups of small parcels in urban areas and propose a comprehensive sustainable planning method. First, an integer programming mathematical model is used to describe the problem based on the characteristics of returned goods in a deterministic environment. Second, this paper adopts the multi-interval robust optimization method to handle the uncertainty in lease price fluctuation and improves the efficiency of its solution using the robust counterpart transformation. Thereafter, this study presents a hybrid heuristic method: a modified sweep heuristic integrated with iterative greedy heuristic and adaptive large neighborhood search (MSIGALNS). The experimental results indicate that the reasonable layout of the microhub network and strategic storage in microhub can help reduce the overall operating cost. The robust parameters analysis reveals a significant impact of lease price uncertainty on the operating strategy with multiple depots.
