Abstract

Background and Objective: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) has become a growing public health problem, affecting more than 10% of women in the United States, and over 200,000 surgeries are performed annually in the U.S. for POP. Open abdominal sacrocolpopexy, is the gold standard surgical option for the surgical correction of POP. With the introduction of the da Vinci robotic surgical platform system (Intuitive Surgical; Sunnyvale, CA, USA) in 1999, robotic surgery has become increasingly popular for pelvic surgery within a brief period and robotic-assisted sacrocolpopexy (RASC) has gained popularity as an efficient and safe approach. The purpose of this narrative review is to summarize the literature regarding the surgical technique of RASC.
