Abstract

Today, the urban road travelers demand safe, convenient and intelligent traffic system. The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) aims to provide smooth transit for vehicles. The ITMS intends to categorically work on the transit of the public safety vehicles like the police vehicle, fire engine or ambulance in urban areas. In this work, we propose an Emergency Vehicle Transit Approach (EVTA) assisted by the Road Side Unit (RSU) and the Traffic Management Center (TMC) for the transit of Emergency Vehicles (EVs). This approach is analyzed for different traffic conditions on the urban roads. The approach demands the need for precise positional parameters and information on the optimal route for the seamless transit of the EVs. Hence, we have analyzed the performance of the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Kalman Algorithm (KA); the two vehicle positioning techniques on EVTA. The simulation results shows that, positional parameters provided by KA are 5% more precise compared to GPS.
