Abstract
This paper focuses on the performance analysis of the intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) based on the cellular digital packet data network (CDPD) and Global Positioning System (GPS). The CDPD network is a wireless network designed to support packet switching on the existing voice cellular telecommunication systems such as the advanced mobile phone standard (AMPS) network. The protocol analysis for CDPD and ITMS based on CDPD and GPS are presented in this paper. In order to simplify the model of data communication and coexisting voice communication, we make some reasonable assumptions so that the data communication of such ITMS can be modeled as an M/D/1 queue in a random environment. Conclusions are drawn from the analysis that the CDPD network can achieve data communication transparency and high capacity while used in GPS ITMS.
